If you’ve been thinking about trying CBD, but don’t feel you know enough about it, you’re not alone.
Today, with social media, it’s easier than ever to find information about any subject. The problem is that a lot of the information isn’t true. It can become very difficult to sort what’s good information, from what is simply misleading. This can all be very confusing when trying to get the facts on CBD.
The main reason for this frustration is that until recently, THC and CBD, the two main ingredients in medicinal cannabis, haven’t been legal in Canada. Researchers have therefore shied away from studying these biological compounds that the consuming public couldn’t legally access. But THC and CBD in Canada are now legal for both recreational and medicinal uses. As such, more funding will now be directed toward clinical testing. Canada in fact, has an opportunity to be a world leader in cannabis research.
With more clinical testing will come more knowledge. We’ll learn more about what medicinal cannabis products are best suited for treating particular conditions and ailments. With more testing, we’ll also learn more about dosing – how much of any particular product to take, how to take it, and when to take it.
At Lune Wellness, we offer quality products, great service, and we’re straightforward when it comes to advice. We welcome inquiries. If you ask about products and dosing, we’ll tell you exactly what we’ve said above: there hasn’t been enough clinical testing. We’ll tell you that what we, or anyone knows, is based on anecdotal information, i.e., what people say generally about medicinal cannabis based on their experience with it.
The wonderful thing is, whether you read it in the newspaper, social media, or talk to people who have used it, people’s experiences have been overwhelmingly positive. There is a compelling reason to try CBD. But before you try it, here’s some other things you’ll want to know:
Medicinal cannabis is a natural product.
Unlike many of today’s refined pharmaceuticals, Cannabis is not a refined or in any way synthetic product. It’s a natural product extracted from plants that have been providing medicinal benefit for thousands of years. Records of its use date back to pre-historic times. Our understanding of how medicinal cannabis works is in its infancy. Nevertheless, cannabis has a long track record of providing safe and effective relief from an array of medical conditions.
CBD won’t get you high.
The great thing about CBD is that it has no known side effects. Unlike THC, it won’t get you high. Getting a buzz from medicinal cannabis might not be a problem for you, particularly if you take it at bedtime. But some people aren’t comfortable with the feeling. They don’t like being even mildly high. For some, anxiety, paranoia, and physical side effects can be quite acute. THC also impairs motor skills. This can affect the ability to safely carry out certain tasks. You can also build a resistance to THC. This means that, over time, you’ll need increasing amounts of THC to get relief.
Start with just CBD.
If you’re new to CBD, start with just CBD. CBD’s track record with many ailments is very reassuring and for most individuals is sufficient in itself. Why risk the limitations of THC when CBD will probably be all you need? Start with a small dose, say 5 or 10 mg, 2 to 3 times a day. Stay with that for 2 -3 days and monitor the results. Gradually increase the dose as necessary until you start to feel a benefit.
When you’re starting to get some relief, you’ll know. By gradually taking more, your body will tell you when more product isn’t getting any more results. That’s when you’ll have reached the optimum dosage.
If you find CBD doesn’t work for you, then it might be time to gradually introduce some THC. Lune Wellness offers several blends that combine small amounts of THC with CBD. You can find them here.
Consuming more won’t necessarily give more benefit.
With any medicinal cannabis product, more isn’t always better. The challenge is to find the right dose. This requires perseverance and consistency. We suspect that some people turn away and give up on medicinal cannabis because they didn’t get any benefit. But the underlying reason may well have been that their dosing was inconsistent. Taking 10 mg one day and then forgetting to take it for a day is going to make it more difficult to see any benefit. For some consumers, keeping notes of when and how much you took, along with a description of the change in your condition, might be very helpful.
The future is promising.
At Lune Wellness, we believe strongly in the power of medicinal cannabis. Research will ultimately confirm what our experience tells us. It will open the door to a better understanding how to manage the symptoms associated with many ailments. In particular, it will be a remarkable step forward in managing pain relief. And this pain relief will be free from the harmful side effects of so many of the modern pharmaceuticals we’ve come to rely on.
