CBD/THC Overview

What are CBD and THC?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of two main cannabinoids found in the Cannabid Sativa plant (also known as the marijuana or hemp plant). Unlike THC, CBD produces no psychoactive effects, yet has been shown to have a wide range of medicinal benefits when taken orally or applied topically.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the main psychoactive component of the marijuana plant. When consumed orally, THC produces psychoactive effects, but applied topically, it does not. THC, like CBD, has been shown to have a wide range of medicinal benefits when taken orally or applied topically.

If you’ve been wanting to try CBD but are hesitant because you don’t feel you know enough about it, you’re not alone.

Today, it’s easier than ever to find CBD advice online.  The problem is that a lot of the information out there is misleading, if not inaccurate.

Trying to get the facts on CBD can be confusing and frustrating, but we’re here to help you make good decisions!

Why is it so hard to find solid CBD advice?

One of the reasons for the lack of sound information on CBD is that THC and CBD, the two main ingredients in medicinal cannabis, weren’t legal for general use by the public in Canada until October 2018.

But with this recent change in law, more funding is expected to be directed to clinical testing.

In the future, we expect to learn much more about what medicinal cannabis products are best suited for treating particular conditions and ailments.

With more testing, we’ll also learn more details about dosing — that is, how much of any particular product to take, how to take it, and when to take it.

How much do we know about CBD?

When it comes to sound CBD advice, we’ll be honest: we’re mostly working with anecdotal information — in other words, what people say about medicinal cannabis based on their experience with it.

At this point in time, there is a lack of clinical research globally. But health professionals remain confident that such products are gentle and effective for most people.

The wonderful thing, whether you read it in the news media, social media, or talk to people who have used it, is that people’s experiences have been overwhelmingly positive.

Our understanding of how medicinal cannabis works is in its infancy. Nevertheless, cannabis has a long track record of providing safe and effective relief from an array of medical conditions. So we’ve got it covered.

Medicinal Cannabis is a Natural Product

Unlike many of today’s refined pharmaceuticals, cannabis is 100% natural.

It’s extracted from plants that have been providing medicinal benefits for thousands of years. In fact, records of its use date back to prehistoric times.

Try CBD Without THC

CBD has no known side effects, and is known to be effective at treating anxiety and stress, insomnia, seizures and helping to relieve chronic and acute pain. According to a report from the World Health Organization, “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…. To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.” And unlike THC, it won’t get you high.

If you’re new to using cannabis products for therapeutic reasons, taking 5-10 mg of a CBD product 2 to 3 times a day is a good place to start.

Stay with that for 2 -3 days and monitor the results. Gradually increase the dose as necessary until you start to feel the benefits.

By gradually increasing your dose, you’ll get a feel for the optimal dosage to find relief.

If you find that CBD without THC doesn’t work for you, then it might be time to gradually introduce products containing THC.

Lune Wellness offers several blends that combine small amounts of THC with CBD.

Dosage: More Isn’t Always Better

One of the most important aspects of CBD advice to note is that consuming “more” at any one time won’t necessarily offer more in the way of health benefits.

The real challenge is finding the correct dose for your specific situation and health needs.

This always requires consistency and perseverance.

We suspect that some people turn away and give up on medicinal cannabis because they didn’t feel any immediate benefits.

But the underlying reason may well have been that their dosing was inconsistent.

For instance, if you take 10 mg one day and then forget to take it the next, you’re not as likely to see the benefits as if you took the same dose every day for the week.

Taking notes of your dosages, that is how much you took, and when you took it, as well as how you were feeling at the time, is a great way to manage your dosing.

The Future of CBD is Promising

At Lune Wellness, we believe strongly in the power of medicinal cannabis.

The research will ultimately confirm what our experience tells us. It will open the door to a better understanding of how to manage the symptoms associated with many ailments.

In particular, it will be a remarkable step forward in managing pain relief free from the harmful side effects of so many of the modern pharmaceuticals we’ve come to rely on.

That’s why we follow the latest research closely and make an effort to bring you the most updated and accurate information about CBD’s medical applications. Link to Blog?
